Albums of ‘07

Category: Uncategorized

A friend and I were discussing, a few days ago, what we thought the best albums of 2007 have been. I immediately went to my ITunes and checked what tracks had the highest Play Count and compiled the list from there. I will list here the top 5, #1 being the most popular down to #5.

  1. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
  2. Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
  3. Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

  4. The Kooks - Inside Out
Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob
Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob
  5. Alexisonfire - Crisis
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Radiohead - In Rainbows

Upon further inspection, I realized that The Kooks and Alexisonfire did not qualify as both their albums were released in 2006.

Why you should fear us

Category: Uncategorized

This isn’t going to be much of a post but I wanted to keep a recorded of the text below, and I figured whoever finds this blog might also enjoy it, so why not blog it?

Reasons To Fear Canada.
By Sean Carman

Ninety percent of population is massed within 100 miles of northern American border.
Seems not to mind that one of its provinces has turned almost entirely French.
Excessive politeness only makes sense as cover for something truly sinister. But what?
Citizens seem strangely impervious to cold.
Decriminalization of marijuana and acceptance of gay marriage without corresponding collapse of social institutions indicate Canada may, in fact, be indestructible.
Has infiltrated entertainment industry with singer, actors, and comedians practically indistinguishable from their American counterparts.
Consistently stays just below cultural radar yet never quite disappears.
Parliamentary government and common-law judiciary appear to function acceptably yet remain completely inscrutable.
Never had a “disco phase.”
Seemingly endless supply of timber, donuts, and Scotch-plaid hats with earflaps.
Keeps insisting it “has no designs on America” and “only wants peace.”

While I’m writing a post with the intent of looking back on it in the future. Here is a brief list of what’s going on around me.

Right Now: Tonight marks Ryan Smyth’s retutrn to Edmonton, the Oilers are kindly rolling over in the 3rd and losing 3-1 to Colorado.
Today: OiNK.cd was raided.
This week: 13 Wildfires have destroyed 400,000+ acres and forced 1 million people to evacuate near San Diego, CA.
This month: 22 days until we go to the D.R. to get married.

Mandatory Post

Category: Uncategorized

So, I was told by a friend that if I didn’t keep posting on a regular basis I would probably quit “blogging” all together. I’ve said that I am going to give this thing a shot, so this is my mandatory post to keep me at it. I guess I can stay on the theme of posting what’s happened in my life as of late, so here it goes.

Homeless Encounter
Friday afternoon had rolled around and out of nowhere a man appears at the desk closest to my office. I hear a man asking to speak with a “boss” and I hear the poor guy at the desk struggling to find the right words. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to poke my head out the door. My colleague promptly points the man in my direction and I am forced to say hello. The man asks to speak in private with me in my office and I oblige. Once closing the door behind himself Eric helps himself to a chair and starts his proposal. After what felt like an eternity, by listening to the stories about his son with a hole in his side, and with the aid of his trusty calculator he pulled out of his jacket pocket, I was able to decipher his toothless ramblings. Eric showed me the number 2020 and repeatedly said the number twenty; luckily I was able to use my superb math skills and asked him if he wanted $40 dollars. This brought great joy to the face of my new friend, but alas, it was only temporary. I had to explain to Eric that I didn’t carry cash with me (and this is the truth, I only ever use debit or credit card). This made him rather angry, he grabbed his letter he gave to me explaining his predicament slammed open my office door, and stormed out of the office. I followed him out to make sure he didn’t pocket anything on his way past our theatre and locked the door behind him. Now, don’t get me wrong, I try not to judge people, and I gave Eric the benefit of the doubt, I would have given him SOME money if I had it (definitely not $40 though), even though this guy was not sober. I shared this story with a few of the people in my department and one raised the point that a hit of meth (the drug of choice in this town as of late) is $40. I’m not saying Eric was asking for money for Meth, but it is a bit odd that he wanted exactly $40 and was not interested in any more or any less.

New Oilers Jersey
Being the Oilers fan that I am, I was starting to get pretty excited as the days approached to the unveiling of the new Oilers jersey. A few people I know had seen the jersey first hand a week or so before and thoroughly explained it to me, so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I had basically committed to buying an away jersey to complete the collection but after seeing them for myself I think I’ve changed my mind. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few worse ones in the league this season, but I think I’ll wait until next year, when they decide to finish it.

Wow, these posts are proving to be longer than I had imagined. Well I guess till next time, goodnight.

Hello world!

Category: Uncategorized

So, this is my first blog post. I’m not really sure why I made this, or if I will ever use it but I thought if I’m going to be in the industry I’m in I should at least give it a shot. I don’t really want to use this as a conduit to explain what I do for a living; however I’m sure some of that might creep in every now and then. I’d rather this be a place that I can look back on in the future and see what I was thinking at that given time.

I guess I can start off by stating the highlights of my day today.

1. The Maple Leafs get a new jersey. Now, I’m not really a leafs fan but seeing as how they are one of the original 6, Canadian, and not French, they have become the “other” team I follow every now and then. Plus you can always guarantee that you can catch a leafs game on Hockey Night in Canada, so it’s kinda hard not to get to know them. Now back to the point, the leafs get a new jersey. It’s blue and…. white…. yup that’s it. They have followed the trend set by the other original 6 by going back to their roots on these new “technically advanced” RbK Edge jerseys. As you can see from the picture below, it is a minimalistic approach and I for one like it.

2. Russia Tests Nuke-Like Vacuum Bomb. Apparently this is the world’s most powerful vacuum bomb, and no, it is not made by Hoover and it will not clean your carpets. This thing is supposed to unleash a destructive shockwave with the power of a nuclear weapon, but not leave behind that pesky radiation so commonly associated with the Nukes. The report I read says that the “Father of all bombs” has an ultrasonic shockwave which inflicts the majority of the destruction but then there is also the incredibly high temperatures that leave the area looking like the surface of the moon. Just like the Nuke, I find the idea and technology behind this bomb amazing, but it is a little troubling. The fact that it doesn’t leave any radiation might mean that people/armies are more apt to use it, and that might not be a good thing. Check out the .gif below to see what it looks like. For the full article I read, here is the link.

Well, that’s it, my first blog post, there is no turning back now. If by chance you have read the above and have gotten all the way down here I apologize, I never said it would be good. If you found any of it interesting or intriguing, I invite you back. I don’t know when the next post will be, but I guess that’s the beauty of RSS.
